Report of the Fitting Out Supper - Saturday 11 March 2017

This has turned out to be once again a most successful and enjoyable evening..

Together with members of the Motor Section, members of the WOA Channel Islands Group and guests, the event was well attended totalling 66 people in all.

The evening began with welcoming remarks from Mike Tai, followed by a presentation by Sacha Yabsley, Rear Commodore (Motor), of forthcoming joint events from WOA & GYC so far planned for this year..

A delicious 3 course meal then followed. All the dishes were well presented and efficiently served in an orderly manner!

The Loyal Toast was proposed by John Falla, Vice Commodore GYC. While having coffee, an expression of warm appreciation was given by all the people present to Peter our Chef and to the rest of the waitering staff.

In conclusion, it was once again an enjoyable and unforgettable evening in the presence of good company, good food and good wine!

Charity Prize Draw

After the dinner, in addition to the autioning of a bottle of Blue Bottle Gin by popular request, a charity raffle of over 30 prizes took place in aid of the Guernsey Alzheimer's Association. In addition to annonymous private individuals who have donated prizes, a good number of local companies have also given away generous and attractive prizes for the good cause. Indeed it has been decided to set aside some of the donated items for a Charity Auction, to be conducted very kindly by Martel Maides without charge in their Auction Room in the near future.

Companies that have donated prizes are:

  • Boatworks+
  • Channel Islands Co-op
  • Condor Ferries
  • GYC
  • Le Friquet Garden Centre
  • Lexicon
  • OGH
  • Stan  Brouard
  • Waitrose

It should be woth mentioning that one of the prizes, a famous framed print by Peter Le Vasseur the local artist called "Echoes of Liverpool" denoting the Beatles, has been passed on to Peter our Chef after he has made a very generous donation towards the Charity. Being a Liverpudlian, it is only befitting that Peter should be given the first choice!
