Guernsey Yacht Club is a Volvo RYA Champion Club and the Junior Section is a thriving community of young sailors, parents and coaches. The Junior Section is committed to coach and train young people to sail competitively to the best of their ability whilst in a safe, sometimes challenging, and - most of all - fun environment.

Regular coaching and training takes place during the weekends all year round and week day evenings in the summer; junior racing takes place at weekends during the period April - October.

The Guernsey Optimist Clinic and Regatta is a popular event attended by Jersey and UK sailors each year, so is the Trophee des Isles, a team racing event held annually together with SNB Saint-Malo in France and St Catherine's SC in Jersey. The event is hosted in Guernsey every fourth year.

The Optimist fleet is one of the largest in the country with over 25 privately owned Optimists and a number of club boats. Our top Optimist sailors regularly gain places in National, Intermediate and Development squads and frequently race in national as well as international events in the UK and Europe, with many others from the club competing in the Optimist national events during the year.

The Pirates Club gives 5 to 8 year olds their first taste of training on the model yacht pond in plastic Optiline boats before making the transition to sailing on the sea in Optimists.

There are also enthusiastic and up and coming Feva and Laser fleets to take the youngsters onward from the Optimist and these fleets provide the opportunity to progress through the RYA and other development paths, to compete locally with adult sailing and in national and international events.

The Junior Section also offers social activities and opportunities for young people to gain instructor, coaching and other qualifications.
