Motor’s Launch was very well attended with over 80 people spending a very enjoyable evening at the Guernsey Yacht Club WelcomeRear Commodore Motor, Richard Ridout and Committee member, Robert “Doddy” Dodsworth welcomed everyone and outlined the plans for the summer. 3 main events are planned with a possible additional safety event in September.
Dave Corson provided a whistle-stop tour of the comprehensive web sites Colin Le Conte of Digimap has produced to help local boaters enjoy their boating. This included the French Marinas information site and the Marina gate times, including a site for your mobile phone which can help with anchoring around the coast. David also showed links to weather pages, fuel opening times and the very interesting AIS tracking system. The talk finished with a quick demonstration of the St Peter Port lifeboat site produced by Mark Le Conte as part of his Gold Duke of Edinburgh award service and the new Guernsey Yacht Club site produced by Enrapture Ltd.
The Commodore, Gordon Wilson welcomed members and non members to the club and was delighted with the turnout. He thanked Rear Commodore Richard Ridout and his committee for their excellent efforts.
After the break, Jon Beausire provided a talk on the history of the Flying Christine together with its recent repairs. This really is the ambulance of the sea. Jon’s pictures, knowledge of the service and in particular the marine ambulance made a most interesting and informative presentation.
The event was followed by an excellent GYC supper which was enjoyed by all. Please click the following link for a summary of the slides www.gyc.org.gg/articles/files/GuernseyYachtClubFeb2010.pdf
