The May Rock Hopping event was a great success. Over 60 people met at the GYC and the Rear Commodore Motor, Richard Ridout welcomed everyone to the official briefing on the Friday evening. They enjoyed a very informative briefing from Colin Ferbrache on the impressive Channel Island Air Search and its crew. This was followed by a full briefing from Robbie Dodsworth and Ady Ogier - the guide for the Rock Hopping. GYC Fish and Chips finished off a fine evening. The weather on the Saturday was excellent. Over 60 people enjoyed a cooked English breakfast at 10:30hrs and then were ferried to the cruisers by some amazing RIBS. These boats are very impressive sea craft, excellent safety boats and very versatile. 4 large cruisers awaited the GYC members and took them on a very educational and hospitable cruise, up to the Brayes, around Grand Amfroque where the seals were sunbathing, down the Rocqueries, through the Goulliot passage and around the inner passages of the south end of Sark. In flat seas and some of the best weather of the year, it was a trip not to be missed. The cruisers then moored in Herm and the RIBS who had accompanied them on the journey, ferried everyone ashore. Ham baguettes and chips were provided at the Mermaid and then everyone returned to their boats for a cruise back home, arriving in Guernsey at 17:30 hrs. An idyllic trip, superb weather, great company and some amazing boats.
