| Motor: 2010 review and plans for 2011 |
|
Now that we have reached the end of 2010 we can report that the GYC Motor Section has had a fantastic season, both on the water and on dry land (although some of the events on dry land were not exactly ‘dry’!).
Perhaps unexpectedly, the 2010 Committee really did awaken a slumbering giant, with GYC motor boat owners
coming out of the Glass Reinforced Plastic work in their droves to take part in the organised events. With the
weather playing its part, the events for 2010 were hailed a great success. The combination of individuals using
their boats for some events and decanting on to fewer, larger boats for others has enabled some truly fantastic and
informative journeys around Channel Island waters with many new friends being made, which has helped create a
fantastic social side to the Motor section. This culminated in its laying up supper which was attended by 96
revellers and continued into the small hours of Sunday morning.
The draft plan for next year is to build on the success of 2010 and to adopt a similar winning format. Events will
kick off with a briefing at the Guernsey Yacht Club on Saturday 19th February, when good weather for the events will be preordered, the new committee’s ideas explained and GYC member feedback sought. Initial thoughts for next season
suggest that there will probably be 3 waterborne events during the summer, including a weekend trip away, which
in 2010 proved to be exceptionally popular and very successful.
We would urge any GYC members that were not involved in 2010 to come along to the February meeting and sign
up for the 2011 events. You won’t be disappointed!
The next Foreshore will include information on your new GYC Motor Committee together with the date and time
of the February briefing. The information will also be posted on the www.gyc.org.gg web site and people on the
GYC Motor e-mail list will also receive an e-mail.
If you would like to be added to the GYC Motor e-mail list, please let the GYC know on gyc[at]cwgsy.net
Finally, many thanks to Richard Ridout and his Committee; Robert Dodsworth, Colin Le Conte and Robert Ridout,
for their splendid work in 2010.
See you all in 2011
